Weekend Recap- A Day Late

I dined with friends, shopped with my mom, and made homemade strawberry lemonade.  My new tote from Fieldguided arrived, and there was a triumphant return of the outdoor furniture.  How was your weekend?

Something Crafty- A Craft Room of One's Own

When the husband and I first moved into our three bedroom house, we were a little bit overwhelmed.  Having come from a one bedroom apartment, we had no where near the amount of furniture needed to fill an entire house. So, many rooms stood empty until we had the time/cash to fill them.  Our third bedroom was one that fell into this category.  After all, there are currently only two of us living in the house.  What in the world were we going to do with two extra bedrooms?

We finally got around to turning one of the rooms into a pretty decent guest bedroom, but what to do with the third?  This question went unanswered for many months, until recently in a fit of inspiration, I decided to turn it into a craft room.

No craft room is complete without a cutesy banner.

An old dresser gets some new life thanks to knobs from World Market.

Old craft projects on display along with one of my favorite Dolan Geiman paintings.

The walls are covered with postcards and old book pages.  Super cheap, but they pack a big punch.

A brand new inspiration board, made out of an old window screen.

It's still a work in progress.  I still need to find a work table, and some sort of lamp, but I love how it's looking right now!

Are you crafty?  Do you have a designated area in your house to work, or do you do what I did before I set up this room, and just make a giant mess on the kitchen table, counter, floor, or wherever you happen to land?

Weekend Recap

We had an awesome weekend here at the Daughters house.  Saturday we went to Bradbury's, my favorite breakfast place in town.  Their banana/nutella/almond crepes: to.die.for.
We also checked out the new Houdini exhibit at MMOCA, and let me tell you, it was amazing.  If you live anywhere in the Madison area, you should definitely check it out.
For our final adventure, we took our maiden voyage to one of the local Asian food markets in search of Mochiko flour to make this dish.  We majorly scored with the flour (super cheap!), and found a number of other delicious treasures along the way.

Sometimes....

via Cocobella

I watch guilty pleasures like Jane By Design.  Yes, it's on ABC Family, and yes, I'm sure the target demographic is middle school girls.  I just can't help myself though, because I'm pretty sure that being a high schooler, and living a double life as an executive assistant at a major fashion label was my dream when I was that age....even though I lived in a farm town of less than a thousand people....

I'm glad it's cold outside because... well, just because.  Winter is my favorite season, so I'll happily take this weather as long as it's being dished out.

I wish I could just pay someone good money to clean my floors. Seriously. It's my least favorite chore ever.

I love discovering unexpected movie gems like Get Low.  It's the best Robert Duvall/Bill Murray/Sissy Spacek movie you've never heard of.  Go Netflix it right now.

I feel like a 5 year-old when I get unnecessarily pouty about losing board games.

I feel like it's one of the world's great injustices when for whatever reason, our DVR doesn't tape one of my shows.

I write a blog post and realize that I don't write nearly as many blog posts as I should.

I feel inspired to be a better person when I think about my sister, and her amazing servant's heart.
