Inspiration Friday

It's everybody's favorite day.  Inspiration Friday!

1. Acorns

I just love acorns.  They are one of my favorite things about fall.  This weekend, my mom and I are even doing an acorn craft!  I can't wait.

2.  Unorthodox Wedding Cakes

I've been seeing so many amazingly unique wedding cakes lately, and I love them.  I think these cakes are true works of art, and I love it when couples insert their personalities into all aspects of their wedding- even the dessert!

3.  Socks + Boots

Seriously, is there anybody who isn't completely in love with this trend right now?  It's such a perfect cozy fall look.

4. Pie

Cakes, pies....I guess I've got dessert on the brain today.  I made an amazing strawberry galette a few weeks ago, and I haven't been able to stop thinking about pie since.

5. Paper Doilies

I'll admit, I used to think these were super tacky.  Lately though, I've seen so many cute things done with them, that I think I might be changing my tune.

Readers, what are you doing this weekend? Any fun plans?  I'm having a craft day with my mum tomorrow, and then I am finally taking the plunge and dying my hair red!!! I can't wait!

P.S. That super girls girl in the socks/boots picture?  That's Sydney, and if you don't already read her blog, you should definitely start. Like today.  Seriously, go do it.

A Little Northwoods Getaway

Last weekend, we spent a delightful weekend in the Northwoods of WI at the summer camp I grew up going to.  Did you go to camp when you were younger? I was a total camp nerd. I looked forward to it every summer with a ridiculous amount of excitement.  It is still one of my favorite places on earth, and I love getting away for a weekend up there.

Here's a little sampling of our weekend:

The Pioneer Restaurant. Giant lumberjack statue. Wood paneled walls. Tacky decor. Excellent vittles.

My pretty sister and mum.

I love that the canoe is named "Discovery."

It's all about health food, really.

We took a little scenic bike ride, and I learned a very important lesson about trying to make quick turns on pea gravel.

The husband rockig my favorite shirt.

What's your favorite getaway place?

House Tour

We've lived in our house for a full two years now, and after much furniture buying, picture framing, and project finishing, it really feels like home.  Admittedly, some of the pictures aren't stellar (the perils of using a free "vintage camera" phone app), but they give you a small glimpse of what's it's like to reside in our humble little abode:)

Our study. I'm a huge fan of stacking books, as well as lining them up in the "normal" fashion on a bookshelf.  I think it makes a bookcase look so much more interesting.

We have a bunch of art pieces on top of the piano. I have such a hard time committing to hanging art.  I never know exactly how/where I want to hang it. So I figured I would take the easy way out and just lean this grouping against the wall, rather than hanging it.

The super cute VW bus pillows were a Christmas gift from my parents last year.  They are from one of my all time favorite Etsy shops, Oh Little Rabbit.

Rotting bananas.  Would you believe me if I told you I was leaving them like that on purpose, so that I could make banana bread?  No? Yeah...didn't think so.

This chest is in our entryway, and it's one of my favorite spots in our whole house. On it, is a mirror my sister made for me, a clay pot that was a gift from a friend, a vintage honey jar I found while at a flea market on vacation a few years ago, and a stack of New York City skyline coasters the husband bought for me while he was on a business trip there.

Another couple shots of our study. I love the vintage "book" games that we got for wedding gifts, and the pipe that came from my grandpa.

The guitar that shames me every time I walk past it.  Is it sin to own a Martin guitar and only know how to play three chords?  I think it might be.....

This chair was an amazing $8 St. Vinnie's find that the husband and I stripped, restained, and reupholstered. It was the first project we ever attempted together, and it turned out pretty great, if I do say so myself.

Another St. Vinnie's chair, and the only shot of our bedroom.  This one was strategically shot, so you can't see the giant pile of mess on the other side of the room. I'm also now noticing what a sad sad job I did of hanging that "Love" sign. It's been there for months, and I'm only now seeing how incredibly crooked it is!  Design fail.

Fresh Finds- Camp Wandawega

While browsing Pinterest the other day, I came across some pictures of the cutest vintage camp/resort called Camp Wandawega.  Their vintage cabins and rustic charm are to die for; everything literally looks like it popped straight out of the past. And you know what's the best part about this little discovery? The resort is  in WISCONSIN! Yay!  I'm just dying to rent their one room cabin for a weekend getaway.

I mean, seriously, how great is this place? Are you as ready to book it for a weekend as I am?
